As You Reach Higher Spiritual Levels Your Trials Become More Complex
There is a passage in Francisco (Chico) C. Xavier's book, Between Heaven and Earth, inspired by the spirit Andre Luiz that talked about the planning of trials for spirits.
Clarencio, a minister and a recurring figure in Andre's life examine a chart for a life plan. He comments:
"The broader the resources of the spirit returning to the flesh, the more complex its so-called work map is. Almost all of us have a significant amount of debt to pay and all of us are challenged by acquisitions we need to attain. This work map entails a type of relative fatalism regarding what we are to experience; on the other hand we are always responsible for our conduct, a fact that can generate either good or bad circumstances for us. Thus, we can see that freewill, which is also relative, is an irrefutable reality on every level of consciousness."[i]
Hence, as you improve and rise in your spiritual quotient, your tasks, either caused by debts or the requirement to attain new experiences, are increasingly nuanced. Whereas, when you may have been a more primitive soul, you may have been reincarnated as servant or some other low order to teach you to be more respectful to others; an attribute you didn't demonstrate when you were in charge. The placement of your birth most probably set your trials in motion with little room to maneuver or use your free will to avoid it altogether.
But as you gain your spiritual wings, the range of trials and circumstances may vary. You have more leeway to make a bad choice. If your conscience is not fully developed and you seek excuses to rationalize away your duty, it becomes easier to fail.
Of course, all of this is on purpose. As we become more proficient, the tests become more challenging. Just thought you may like to know this, to keep you from skating along in your life in a pleasant fog. Watch out, your next test may be around the corner.
